The exhibition has been extended and as of October 2022 is still hung on it’s graffiti wall. Liz intends to update the exhibition, replacing damaged prints and adding 2 new photos in November 2022.
I started the @blackwhite.gold instagram account after doing a shoot for Cosmopolitan Magazine, ‘How to Make Your Dog Instafamous’. My friend and dog walking companion Danielle assisted me on the shoot and we came away thinking, we have dogs, we obsessively take photos of them, doggy instafame could be ours! With the crazy jumping skills of Jeanie, the world weary grumpiness of Dolly and good girl lady-like qualities of Elsa the account soon started growing. It really took off though when we were featured by @instagram three times, for a while we were nestled inbetween David Beckham and Kim Kardashian in their list of followers, obviously very gratifying for the girls and, rightly so, their treat demands sky rocketed.
During lockdown I found myself doing more dog photos, of the @blackwhite.gold girls and other peoples’ dogs too. The photos were picked up by several national newspapers as well as publications abroad and they even unexpectedly popped up on Canadian breakfast TV. The photos taken in my home town of Herne Bay, Kent proved very popular with locals, Herne Bay getting half page features in The Times and The Telegraph was pretty exciting.
Spring 2021, I get an email from The Herne Bay Festival asking if I’d like to do something for this year’s festival. An exhibition of the @blackwhite.gold photos taken in and around Herne Bay? Yes please! So that is what’s happened, and I’m very happy about it. I didn’t want fine art prints in a gallery accompanied by wine drinking and flattering conversation. So, the exhibition is more public art in spirit. The prints are large and hung on a graffiti covered breeze block wall on Herne Bay sea front. The open evening on 31 July included Sri Lankan curry and beer from Herne Bay’s beautiful The Bay Leaf, music (40% dog themed) was provided by my friend Leon and there was some @blackwhite.gold models there to provide selfies and pawtographs. Despite a dramatic and sudden rain storm just before, the evening was a massive success. The Bay Leaf sold out of food twice, many humans and dogs came and left with massive smiles, it was so good! (To see photo from the evening have a scroll down.)
